Description
Pearled Barley is simply barley grains with the hull and bran removed. This grain has a sweet and mild flavor that taste delicious is cold salads topped with vinaigrette or even as a breakfast cereal topped with brown sugar. This grain can be used as a side dish in place of couscous, rice and pasta and is a classic ingredient in beef barley soup.
To Cook: Pearl barley. Bring 1 cup barley and 2 1/2 cups water or broth to a boil. Reduce heat to a simmer; cook, covered, until tender and most of the liquid has been absorbed, 40 to 50 minutes. Let stand 5 minutes.
